Hello Christmas Explorers!

As the holiday season commences, we’re here to dive into the diverse cultural traditions of different communities in the United States during Christmas. Join us as we delve into the details of unique customs, festive foods, and proper etiquette for the holiday season. Let’s begin with an exciting and incredibly rich tradition: Las Posadas.

Las Posadas: The Quest for Festive Shelter

The Mexican-American community in the United States celebrates Las Posadas, a tradition centered around the search for the Bethlehem shelter. This eight-day celebration runs from December 16th to December 24th. Participants go from house to house, reenacting the journey of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter in Bethlehem.

Accompanying the ceremonial aspects are the meals, which play a significant role in this day. Traditionally dishes like tamales, pozole, or bunuelos are prepared during Las Posadas. These foods bring flavors to the festive table, bridging tradition with modern cuisine.
